Business
work
He slipped it into my hand like a favour. In the undisturbed upstairs of the Edelweiss Club in Manhattan. The last time I was there. Twenty wasn’t much, not for a blow-job anyway.
I’ve never spent it – let’s face it what mattered was that it was a transaction. There’s work, - where effort is rewarded, - and there’s business – where something changes hands. That’s a transaction. For “work” look deeper, but for business, start here.
Trans leads more often than maybe it should to sex-work, certainly when survival’s an issue. Sometimes dependency. We monetize, we exploit, the fascination we generate. I’ve enjoyed a few transactions in my life.
There were always clubs and premises and cold streets and cars, and now you can escort with card-payments and offer yourself on-line from your own bedroom. But there must be a transaction. For me to offer a service without receiving money for it I would be playing a game, of control and status. My feelings would start to matter.
Business can make you rich, but I never spent that bill. I keep it as a bookmark in my copy of “The Decameron”.
