"My Son Divine"

For a long time I thought that I had read this book cover-to-cover but that was because I had seen the 2013 film “I Am Divine” and I knew all about the life. When though I picked this off the shelf I realized that it had been a gift, that I had only browsed it and that I had forgotten or never noticed that my copy is signed by “Divine’s Mom Francis Milstead” and dedicated to “the winner of the “DIVINE LOOK ALIKE Contest….” Was this you gave me this, Dante Hill? Or who did, and how did you win that? This is then another collector’s item. And whatever it may tell you about Divine’s life and character - and a lot of lowdown is here because Francis and associates have interviewed most of the key players in this story - it is a powerful case-study for anyone wanting to answer the question “What makes a trans?” Family, upbringing, genes, chance, social connections, the historical period – all are interspliced as Glenn Milstead steadily becomes Divine. Read the book and make your own mind up. I might rate the book over the film for interest, but Divine is so watchable.
