The Female Man
Now this is a find. Joanna Russ comes at the gender spectrum from a feminist perspective in a science fiction mode, back in the 1970's and you're left with a quite complicated sense of how popular culture skews our understanding of the female "self", indeed whether there is something we might call a "female self". As science fiction it's a bit abstract but as a review of the territory it proves that fiction and imagination can do the job very well. Also how complementary trans and feminist literature can, and should, be.
Use it as an antidote to "Detransition, Baby".....
