"Hidden Genders"

When I first came across this article as an emerging trans I remember feeling encouraged and a bit daunted by the stories in it. Encouraged because it was the first glimpse I got of the wonderful variations on gender and relationships which people could embrace, daunted because it obviously took courage and imagination to declare yourself to a national publication or to a photographer.
All these portraits still express an authentic delight in confident individualism. I wanted to be like them and hope that I have honoured their legacy.
