"Stevenage"

If a writer/performer can have a masterpiece then it's possible that "Stevenage" is mine. It was my first full-length original stage-work and was, of course, madly ambitious. The production premiered in 2010 at the Bluecoat in Liverpool and required a standing audience, projections on three sides and the whole collection of original architectural models from Stevenage Museum on tables and wheeled trolleys not forgetting a cake with a model of the clock tower in Stevenage's main Square to hand out to the audience at the end. It also toured with all of the aforementioned and eventually fetched up at the actual Stevenage Festival in 2013. Something about the project was inevitable in my life from the moment I ran away to the town in my late teens - and how TV star Barry Evans, entropy, visionary planner Ebenezer Howard, poet John Clare and of course transgender amongst other subjects got drawn in will be revealed if you read the script. Some of the show was filmed and if I can find the trailer I'll put that up on here. Stevenage and "Stevenage" changed my life. For that reason alone it's worth your attention.
