Talk Dirty To Me

Starting thus... "I was trying to remember when I first met Joey Hateley. We were both performing at a one-off transgender performance festival in Bethnal Green – yes, Transfabulous in 2006. We did our separate things, had a good chat and intended to keep in touch, and in a way we have. Thanks to the wonders of Facebook and similar media I have tracked Joey as the Gender Joker, and his company Transaction Theatre, working out of Manchester, while I’ve been working out of Liverpool, and we pursued different but related performance paths. We both do solo-based trans performance, he FTM, me MTF, and both of us, like many trans performance artists, (Kate Bornstein was top of the bill at Transfabulous) deriving our shows from autobiographical material. For all that I haven’t seen anything of Joey’s for a long time, and took the opportunity to catch up when he brought his “DiRTy” show to Liverpool as part of DaDaFest. I wanted it to be the best, and so I owe it to Joey, whom I consider as a distant soulmate, to say why I don’t think it is yet and how I think it can be."
