Face Forward – Kevyn Aucoin
We lost Kevyn in 2002 not long after I had lugged this definitive volume back from San Francisco where I had been doing a bit of dragging around. Kevyn kind of invented contouring and made more famous faces (and faces famous) than Helen launched ships. Here are many of them in wondrous style – male/female, from his mother to Cleopatra via Christina Ricci and Dietrich - with the whole expertise laid out for following. Was he “the greatest make-up artist of his time”? I have no idea, but the make-up industry benefited from his mastery and the Drag Racers would have had far less to pillage and contort and over-exaggerate without him.
Nearly a Bible. Just maybe lacking the Apocrypha.
